Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between single-thread and twisted yarn?

SINGLE-THREAD YARN
Single-thread yarn is composed of fibers held together by a small amount of twisting; or fine strands held together with or without twisting, or narrow strips of material; or an artificially made amount of bundled strands with sufficient thickness to be used as yarn (single-thread). Single-thread yarn of the spun type, made up of many short fibers, also requires twisting.

TWISTED YARN
After yarn is spun, it is not strong enough to be processed into upholstery fabrics, curtains, bath, bed, table, or kitchen linen. In many cases, strands are twisted together to make the yarn stronger. These twisted strands are used as a base for fabrics. Twisted yarns provide a stronger final product that is more durable than single-thread woven products.

What is combed cotton/yarn?

In combed yarns, there is an additional processing step after carding that ensures:

  • Short fibers are removed
  • The fibers are aligned more parallel than with simple carding

These characteristics result in a better final product:

  • Softer and more uniform
  • More lustrous and vibrant colors
  • More absorbent
  • Less pilling
  • More durable
What is the difference between reactive and indanthrene dyed yarn?

Indanthrene dyed fabrics are suitable for intensive use and have excellent color retention. Maximum protection against light, washing, and bleaching.
Reactive dyed fabrics provide good protection against light but cannot be bleached and are not resistant to chlorine.

What is percale bed linen?

Cotton percale has a minimum count of 200 threads per inch.
Percale refers to a weave density and thread fineness that is higher than that of regular cotton (where 144 threads per inch are used).

What are the different types of filling available for a duvet?
  • Polyester hollow fiber
  • Duck feathers
  • Goose feathers

  • Polyester Hollow Fiber
The hollow fibers provide a lightweight, comfortable, and warm duvet that offers adequate protection through the air layers in the fibers. A polyester duvet is also easy to maintain and cheaper than a feather duvet. Additionally, they are hypoallergenic.

  • Duck Feathers
Duck feathers are larger than goose feathers and provide more insulation and warmth. Both duck feathers and down ensure good ventilation.
What is the difference between 100% cotton and 50% polyester/50% cotton bed linen?

50% Cotton - 50% Polyester Bed Linen
It is more durable due to the polyester fiber, less expensive than 100% cotton bed linen, easy to maintain, and shrinks less.

100% Cotton
Cotton has good moisture absorption.

What is the industrial washing procedure for cotton percale bed linen?

Dilution Ratio
1 kg of textile / 12 l of machine capacity
1 kg of textile / 4 to 5 l of softened water

Washing Process

  • Pre-Wash:
15 min at 35 °C (high temperatures can fix adhesive agents) pH = neutral
Make sure to add a good wetting agent
Optionally: gradually raise the temperature to 50 °C
A two-bath process is preferred over one bath

  • Main Wash:
    15 min at 85 °C
pH 6-7 after the last rinse (for good finishing)
    Centrifuging: > 50% residual moisture

Machines
A washing/spinning machine is preferred over a washing tunnel.

Finishing
Directly after centrifuging - the linen should be sufficiently moist
28 m/min
175 °C
25 bar
Residual moisture: 2 - 3%
Always try a few sheets first before finishing the entire batch - high temperatures can fix residues of synthetic strengthening agents. Optionally rewash before finishing.
